"Ad hoc update to system catalogs is not supported" error during IQ install

Article ID: 51049 - Last Review: November 26, 2010

An "Ad hoc update to system catalogs is not supported" error is encountered during the Intelligent Queue installation.

While running the IQ configuration manager, the following error is encountered:

Database IQR3 updated
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Ad hoc update to system catalogs is not supported.
Configuration option 'show advanced options' changed from 1 to 1. Run the RECONFIGURE statement to install.

The SQL 'allow updates' option is still present in the sp_configure stored procedure, although its functionality is unavailable in SQL Server.  The setting has no effect.  Starting with SQL Server 2005, direct updates to the system tables are not supported.

NOTE: This feature will be removed in a future version of Microsoft SQL Server.  Do not use this feature in new development work, and modify applications that currently use this feature as soon as possible.

Run the attached sp_reconfigure.sql script on the CCM SQL Server to disable the 'allow updates' option.
